ABLE and LAWO Publish 2022 – 2023 Harvest Calendar for Ohio’s Farmworker Community

Every year, Advocates for Basic Legal Equality (ABLE) and Legal Aid of Western Ohio (LAWO) partner in joint outreach and travel across the state of Ohio to meet, share, and distribute educational resources to nearly 2,000 migrant and seasonal farmworkers and H-2A temporary agricultural workers.

Farmworkers have limited protections under U.S. federal and state laws. However, the rights farmworkers do possess are often not enforced and farmworkers are left with little to no recourse. ABLE and LAWO’s outreach staff reach farmworkers in their communities and in their primary language to make sure they are aware of their rights while working in Ohio. One way we get out information to the farmworkers and their families is mass distribution of the annual Harvest Calendar.

The Harvest Calendar is our main outreach tool, and it contains a breadth of topics from employment rights and other legal rights, such as basic health and safety accommodations while working in the fields, right to decent and safe housing, worker’s compensation, workplace discrimination, sexual harassment, children’s right to education, types of protections for victims of domestic violence, immigration basics, and more.
