Executive Director (ABLE)

Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) is currently seeking an Executive Director (due to retirement).

Founded in 1969 as a poverty law firm committed to law reform, ABLE is a nonprofit law firm seeking a progressive attorney to lead a staff of 64 providing high quality legal assistance in civil matters to low-income individuals and groups throughout 32 counties in western Ohio. It also represents agricultural workers throughout the state. ABLE has a rich legacy of varied, dynamic and transformational advocacy. It is committed to racial justice through a community lawyering approach with offices in Dayton, Defiance and Toledo. ABLE enjoys a close collaborative relationship with Legal Aid of Western Ohio (LAWO), but does not receive LSC funding.

Grants and Contracts Associate

Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE), a non-profit law firm that provides free, high quality legal assistance to eligible low-income residents of western Ohio, seeks a Grants and Contracts Associate. The position is based in ABLE's Toledo Office. Associate will track, coordinate, and implement ABLE and Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO) grant activities. Associate will also research and prepare grant proposals and reports and maintain electronic files for nearly 60 public and private grants and contracts.

Unaccompanied Immigrant Children Fellow

Funded through Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps or the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation

Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE), a non-profit regional law firm that provides high-quality legal assistance to low-income persons and groups in western Ohio, and agricultural workers statewide, seeks a dynamic, bright, hardworking attorney to serve as an Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps or Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation (OLAF) Fellow.

The Fellow will provide civil legal assistance to immigrant children eligible for asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, U-visa status, or deferred action and represent the children throughout Ohio in related juvenile, asylum, and immigration proceedings. The term of service will begin immediately through November 30, 2016, with a possible renewal. The position will be in our Dayton office.
